The Ridgid DP1550 drill press has a 5/8 chuck with 3-3/4 inches of spindle travel which facilitates drilling through a 4X4.  The 12 different speeds, ranging from 300-3100 rpm, make working on any material type a breeze. For someone who’s looking to buy a drill press for the first time, the Ridgid DP1550 turns out to be an excellent buy. It doesn’t necessarily bust the bank and provides all the basic features and functions an amateur would require. In addition, assembling it is very easy since it comes with well machined parts and very clear, step by step instructions.

However, the Ridgid DP1550 isn’t just for first timers. It has also received great reviews from serious woodworkers who’ve tried a variety of tools and found this model to be one of the best. In particular, a lot of users have commented on the silent working of the drill press. The belts work smoothly and the motor is quieter than a whisper.

You couldn’t find a better combination of quiet, yet powerful performance in another drill press. One customer commented on the precise gauge for drilling depth which delivers great accuracy, unless your work involves extremely tight tolerances.

On the flip side, there were a couple of minor issues that customers felt need to be addressed. It was noticed that a regular-sized light bulb could not be used in the work light since the hole in the housing was way too small. Also, a few commented on the chuck being a little sticky.
